washed ashore

Happy weekend everyone! I hope your enjoying this fabulous Vancouver weather....Not! wait....it Not still a thing?....No? I didn't think so.
Anyways, the rain is pouring in the city, the snow is falling in the mountains, and I'm lying on the couch under a blanket.  All is normal on the west side of the country.
These photos were actually taken last weekend down at Kits Point Dog Beach (when the sun happened to be shining, than went behind a cloud right as we pulled out the camera).  There were a couple of boats that had washed ashore, broken and weathered.  It was kinda cool.  I took some photos that I'll share later this week.
With my busy schedule, finding down time has been hard to find, so it was nice to walk around Kits for the afternoon with the Bf and Kea in tow and just mosey.  Those little moments really help me decompress.

I'll let you (and me) get back to your weekend now.

queen B

Last weekend was a total girls weekend.  I spent Saturday with some ladies shopping our hearts out, having some great sandwiches for lunch, followed by some more shopping, all before getting ready for Beyonce in concert.  Wow.  That woman is filled with magic.  If you've heard the quote, "you have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce". followed by seeing her perform live, you might not think this quote to be true.  Two words....Sequin.  Onesie.
We had amazing floor seats and got a really great view of the gorgeous lady when she flew over the crowd to a little mini stage.  There were three people between her and me, I may have been a teeny bit excited. Check out the video to see just that!
Ashly was kind enough to take a few photos of my concert outfit in her beautiful living room.
Girl time was definitely needed and appreciated.  Thanks for the fun day girls!

baby, it's cold outside

Wow, so the last two weeks just flew by.  Working retail during the holidays can sometimes take over your life, and it's barely December.  I have to admit though, I'm getting pretty excited for the holidays.
This weekend I'm planning on decorating our apartment, picking out a tree (a real one, but a mini version about 3 feet tall), putting together my family's Christmas package (snailmail deadline is a comin'!).
So, pretty much the funnest, most holiday filled weekend ever!

Are you ready for the holidays?

90's Girl

top: glmr kills
skirt: TOPSHOP
plaid shirt: Amrerican Eagle
shoes: Converse via Hudson's Bay
bracelets: Helloo Sailor and Aldo

After getting dressed and walking out of the bedroom, the Bf said "you look like Alanis Morissette."
My response, "sweet!"
I've been wanting to give a second try to the trend of tying a plaid shirt around your waist, seeing as the first time I did it was actually in the 90's.  And I have to admit, I don't mind it.  I decided to leave my plaid shirt buttoned up though, to not add any extra width at my hips (aka. my widest part).
This would have been the perfect outfit in some great 90's movies...Empire Records, come on, I would have fit right in with Liv Tyler!
Some of my favourites include: Clueless, Romi and Michele's Highschool Reunion, Can't Hardly Wait, Scream, 10 things I Hate About You, She's All That, Cruel Intentions, Dangerous Minds, and of course Billy Madison.
This list could definitely be bigger, but I had to cut myself off somewhere!!
Have you tried this trend? first or second time around?
And for an even better question...any movies to add to the list?

slow weekends & grey touques

anorak jacket: Aritzia (last year)
sweater: H&M
olive green jeans: TOPSHOP
boots: too old to remember
necklace:
grey toque: TOPMAN (Calgary!)

Now that November is well on it's way here in Vancouver, things have become a little quieter and cozier at our place.  The Bf is now back to his regular schedule of Monday to Friday, after working like a crazy man this past summer.  We've finally gotten back to having weekends together.  We're spending nice quiet mornings at home with homemade breakfasts, watching movies in the afternoons, and one of my favourite weekend things to do together is taking Kea for walks.
I think we're all happiest when the three of us are together.
These photos are from last weekend while we were out running some errands in our neighborhood.  I had just gotten back from Calgary, AB and needed something familiar and low key.  It was a pretty slow moving walk, but it was just the right pace.
What are some of your favourite weekend things to do this time of year?

double chins & garbage bins

This lady right here, she knows how to be classy.  Back alleys are a girls best friend.

I really enjoyed Thanksgiving weekend.  It actually felt long, and all the food was amazing.  And I must say, for our first time ever cooking a turkey, it couldn't have been more perfect.
Mind you, I think we put garlic in absolutely every single dish, so forgive me if I keep my distance, I feel like the smell is just radiating off me!
Oh, and the best feeling after eating the amazing meal....unbuttoning my jeans.

sweater dress

sweater dress: Phillip Lim for Target
belt: Target
scarf: Club Monaco (hand me down from a friend)
boots: sooo old, I don't remember

First of all, I must say, what a beautiful fall weekend it was in Vancouver.  It reminded me of back home, walking through the Forks of the Credit, looking at all the trees as they change colours.  I love fall in Ontario. Anyways...
I've always been a fan of the sweater dress.  But as the different silhouettes over the years have changed, I think I've finally found one that suits me.  I decided to belt mine to create a bit of a waistline, but seeing as this dress has been in,  what seems like constant rotation, it's surprisingly versatile.  Worn loose with my jean jacket, or pulling the neckline off my shoulder and layering with some leggings.  Great for fall transition.

heat wave

dress: Target
boots & belt: American Eagle
bag: Miz Mooz
necklace: Gifted

We seem to be experiencing a bit of a heat wave here in Vancouver, and all I want to do is start wearing my fall clothing! So, to make a compromise with mother nature, I went for this daytime summer dress, but mixed it with brown leather accessories.  I was still very hot.
A funny thing about this dress, when Target first opened in BC, it was nearly sold out in days (the influence of these ladies probably helped). And with my first trip to the store, I did try this dress on, but opted to pass, only because my 'yes' pile in the fitting room was too big.  But, when I was home a few weeks ago, in Ontario, this same dress was on the clearance rack for $8.99!! with a very full arrangement of sizes!! Just my luck!
It's crazy how different the demographics are between the west and east coasts.

Update: the weather has turned.... and now I want to wear shorts.

Squamish Style - day 3

t shirt: skater store in Washington state
shorts: American Eagle
booties: H&M
necklaces: Aldo and Helloo Sailor
bracelets: Helloo Sailor

So, the third and final day of Squamish Valley Music Festival was a long one, but a good one.  I wore my hair in a bun, mainly out of necessity, camping, no showers, hot weather, and dancing too much = top knot.
We arrived on Saturday in time to see Diamond Rings, followed by Divine Fits.  Both bands starting with the letter 'D' were delightful.  Next up was Gogol Bordello, and the crowd loved it.  The stage was covered in people playing all kinds of different instruments, doing all kinds of different dances.
But my favourite show of the whole festival was Fitz And The Tantrums.  I met up with a friend to watch them and we had a great time.  That friend left the show early so she could catch another band, and the Bf was supposed to come find me for the second half, but no one found me. So, instead I watched the second half of Fitz And The Tantrums by myself....and it was awesome.  I danced my ass off.
Next we watched Childish Gambino.  One word, Community.  If you watch Community, than you know my love for Troy.  Then we caught the big headliners Queens of the Stone Age, but I couldn't stay to watch the whole thing.  As I mentioned in day 1 coverage, food trucks.  I had to have the 'slumdog millionaire' mac and cheese from the Mac and Cheese food truck a second time.  I just couldn't get enough of it!!
We finished off the night with some Pretty Lights, and not only called it a night, but called it a festival.

Squamish Style - day 2

hat: gifted
top: Lauren Moshi via Hudson's Bay
shorts and cross ring: Forever 21
purse: Pendleton
sunnies: H&M
sandals: Aldo

The second day of Squamish Valley Music Festival was the day I was most looking forward too.  The line up was filled with some of my favourtie bands.  And what a day it was!!
We arrived in time to see Deap Valley, a two part, girl grunge band, who pleasantly surprised me.  The amount of sound these two ladies can conjure up, paired with a killer voice, it was pretty much a dance party and totally got us pumped up for the day.  Next up was a must see for me, Dragonette.  The lead singer, Martina Sobara, was my choice for best dressed artist, with her high waisted denim shorts, striped blouse and black studded ankle boots. Then followed by, what must have been an audience sing along, with Dan Mangan. At this point our group split up a bit and some went to watch Jurassic 5, which is rumored to be one of the best shows of the entire festival,  and some, including me, stayed to get a good spot for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.  You'll be glad to hear the Macklemore didn't disappoint, and in the near future will have dual citizenship to Canada.  I think he's pretty stoked about that.  Last was Vampire Weekend, and let me tell you, the crowd was loving it! I had so much fun, that I came home with a tshirt!
With all that being said, it was a looong day.  We went to watch A Tribe Called Red, but I didn't last more than fifteen minutes, before heading to bed.
Festival goers do have the luxury of sleeping in, seeing as most things don't get under way until the early afternoon.  And sleep in, I did.  Muahahahah!

Squamish Style - day 1

acid wash denim dress: Target

necklace: Anthropologie
sunnies: H&M
bracelets: Helloo Sailor
feather headress: diy

As my first music festival experience has come and gone, I can't wait until next year!
The amazing music, great people watching, drinks, food trucks....more about that later.
The day 1 line up was short and sweet.  We arrived just as Portage and Main ended, next up was The Belle Game, they were pretty chill, great for the first night.  We heard a bit of Dustin Bentall & The Smokes while getting some dinner, and finished off the night with Matt Mays, whom I didn't know much about, but was super impressed!
Stay tuned for day 2!

prim & proper

I decided to beat the heat in not a tank top and shorts for a day and look like an actual put together adult.  Let's just say it's a good thing I remembered to put on deodorant.
Anyways, it's the long weekend and here I sit in our living room watching Gilmore Girls (season 5), attempting to make my to-do list for the next 2 weeks.  Things will be a little hectic with prepping our apartment for a house guest, going to Squamish Valley Music Festival, and then leaving for a week back home for vacation (read: packing up my Mom's house for her move).
laundry - check! outfit planning - check! ipod updating - check!
Looking forward to it all!
