Kea

Sometimes I think she's misses being out in the desert somewhere in California.  She makes these little dark places to hide away in and sleeps.  Then she remembers she's here with us, her Mama and Papa, and sticks her head out and kinda gives us a little doggy smile.
We've got a good one.

sorbet

I apologize in advance if these photos blind you, but it was like, the most sunny day in Vancouver ever!  I'm not complaining, except for the fact that I was heading into work, but keep the sunnyness coming!
I was told I look like sorbet in this outfit,  and I kinda like that.  Who doesn't love ice cream?
I had a bit of a secondary thought to yesterday's post about outfit photos, another thing to keep in mind, is why don't I take photos of what I'm actually wearing for the day, and not dress for the photos.  I took that inspiration from Kendi, at Kendi Everyday.  You all have probably seen and are obsessed with her blog by now, if not, I linked her anyways, and you might live under a non-blogging rock.  She answers some great questions in her FAQ section and says that yes, if you see it on the blog, she wore it that day.
Such a smart cookie.  and ice cream.

Mom

Fashion has always been a part of my life.  Growing up a lot of my outfits were made by my Mom, she went to design school as a young lady and was and still is very good.  She's always inspired me.

Now with a blog and everything, the thought of outfits and outfit photos is kind of daunting.  You guys may have noticed that I've been trying to incorporate them more into my my blog and share photos of some of my favourite outfits.  But, when I get dressed and ready for them, the anxiety starts.....do I look on trend? I need to add more accessories! my hair is too puffy/flat! I look fat! I look too tall!  The list could go on for a while... and don't get me started on the awkwardness that starts when I'm in front of the camera.  Posing, trying to help the Bf figure out my camera and generally trying to look slim and hold a smile.
Another thing is, it can be hard to not compare yourself to other bloggers out there.  They're all so beautiful! Have lovely wardrobes! and are just down right amazing! Well, instead of comparing, I've got to think of them all as inspiration.  Some of you may know who you are ;) , some I'm sure may not even know I exist, and in the grand scheme of life, that's ok.  Thank you for beautiful inspiration everyday.

I've come to the realization that I can no longer kid myself with the idea of perfect photos every time, and getting it perfect the first time.  It all comes with practice.  So, outfit posts are here to stay, but as a work in progress.  (please don't judge me too hard!!)

I look at old photos of my Mom, and she looks so effortless and happy.  And I can't lie, she was/is such a cutie!  That's what I hope to get out of outfit photos.  Happy and effortless.  Who cares about the rest!

Any tips?

p.s. this photo is from about 1981, and unfortunately it's not me with my Mom, it's my older sister.  My photo collection is a little limited living in another province from the rest of my family.  But doesn't she look lovely in her printed blouse?!

3 weeks and 1 day

In 3 weeks and 1 day there are going to be some changes.  Mostly concerning my life, you guys will be doing fine, trust me.  I can't get into all the details just yet, but when I can, hopefully there will be feelings like excitement, happiness and adventure (rather than nervousness, doubt, and fear).  Let's all just cross our fingers and we'll go from there.
I CAN tell you that I have a vacation coming up that I'm super excited for!! I've been California dreamnin' for a while now, and can't wait to be there!

When the time comes, I may ask for some advice, or suggestions, or anything really.... in the mean time thank you for all your support! Now and in advance ;)

forts

It feels like Monday is ever lasting this week.  Well, make that Tuesday, Monday was a holiday this week.  I was lucky enough to have Sunday off and only work a half day on Monday, so I got some quality time with my loves.  I have to admit though, I finished work on Saturday afternoon, and I didn't leave the house until I had to go to work on Monday afternoon.  The weather forced it upon us! It rained nearly all weekend long, so what's better to do than watch movies all day? Watching movies all day in your pajamas! And snacking all day long! And building a fort! ....ok, there was no fort, the Bf wouldn't let me.  I really wonder sometimes what he has against living room forts, it's only pillows, blankets and amazing-ness! Oh well, maybe I'll just have to build one when he's not home and have an amazing time without him.
Wow, I don't quite know if most of that made sense....oh well, at least you get to see a cute photo of Kea.

ombre

I have a hair appointment in about 2 weeks (I booked it a month in advance!) and I'm trying get an idea of what I want to do with my hair.  I'm definitely going to skip the blunt bangs this summer (save them for the winter), and stick with my side swept bangs for the time being.  But colour....oh colour. I`m kinda obsessed with the ombre look and really want to try it, but I`m a bit nervous. (read: a lot) What if it just looks like bad roots! what if it looks like I dip dyed the ends! So many possible scenarios are flying around my head!
I've found a few photos that I`m using as pinspiration.  Do you update you hair in the summer? How do you decide what to do? Do you think I'm crazy?!

picnics

You know what I love.....picnics.  They are such a sweet way of spending some time together outside with some good food.  Whether its with your love or friends, just relaxing, talking, reading, whatever you want.  Over the weekend we definitely weren't the only people out there having a picnic, the sunshine was just inviting people out there.  We made up a couple of sandwiches, potato salad, ice tea and a few other things and took our shoes off on the blanket.  This summer there will be plenty more where that came from!

Burnaby Mountain

This past weekend was filled with the best weather.  Over 20 degrees, sunshine and short skirts.  We made our way outside as much as possible.  On Saturday we went to Burnaby Mountain.  We walked around (not so much a hike), checked out the amazing views and had a picnic while laying out in the sun.  It was the perfect start to summer.

happy weekend!

I actually have a weekend off!  Like both Saturday and Sunday! I haven't since our camping trip and that probably wasn't that long ago, but for some reason it feels like it.  We're going to spend our weekend by going for a hike, going out for drinks with some friends, hanging at the beach (thank goodness the sun is out!) and laying on the couch inbetween it all.
Happy Weekend!
side note: Instagram is finally available for smart phones! i just downloaded it....i have no idea how to use it.  so long RetroCam, it's been swell!

Kea

What a big dog! Kea is over 4 months old now and starting to lose her teeth.  I never knew dogs did that, kinda like people, except that they usually end up swallowing most of them.  She's such a good dog and people tell us that all the time.  She'll win over your heart!

J.Crew Colours

Last week the new J.Crew location opened up on Robson St in downtown Vancouver, and I was lucky enough to go to their opening party, the night before the big day of opening to the public.  It's the second location in Canada, but the first to carry the men's collection.
First of all, the shop is way bigger than it appears from the front door, it's long and deep with lots of little moments throughout the sales floor.  Second of all, so much colour! From classic pencil skirts, to coloured denim to their signature cashmere sweaters, the store was full of vibrancy.  Some of my favourites were the bauble necklaces, the sequin anchor tank, and the men's ties.  The decor throughout the store was clean and crisp with a touch of found objects for art and interest.  I think I could spend hours there just exploring.  Let's not get me started on the footwear and handbag shop, hello little black suede wedges....I'm sure we'll meet again!
