Christmas Eve

Just a quick note, guys! Christmas Eve is such a special day. I'm pretty much excited all day long. This year my bf and I are at his Mom's place for Christmas Eve, that's when they have dinner and open gifts and do the majority of their celebrating. Then on Christmas morning, we'll be heading to my family's house, which is about a 2 hour drive away. My sisters will be patiently (replace patiently with hyper actively) waiting by the door and we'll be able to start our day. I hope Santa is good to everyone, I tried really hard to be extra good this year.
Merry Christmas Everyone! From my family to yours, may your day be filled with joy, peace and love.

Happy Birthday Mid Sista!!

I know, I know, I get a little bit busy (replace a little bit, with beyond extreme) and I neglect my beloved blog. This is me officially apologizing to the universe, specifically my few readers out there. Love you guys!
Today is my sisters birthday (the middle sista), and we're having a nice family dinner. Then the real fun starts with the long awaited Sista Sleepover! Movies, games, snacks galore! Its going to be a wonderful night, and there couldn't be 2 people I love more to hang out with. I'm sure I'll have some evidence of our crazy shenanigans to share with you tomorrow!!

p.s. I will be taking a small leave of absence the week between Christmas and New Years. I'll be up at the cottage all week, and unfortunately, no Internet. That just means, lots of fun posts the following week!!
p.p.s. I feel that I needed to share that with all of you so no one gets angry with me in regards to my blog neglecting situation!

O, Christmas Tree!!

I love real Christmas trees. They fill the house with that fresh, pine scent. My parents always get a real one, I think that my sisters and I would throw a fit if they didn't. It's a great tradition that will live on forever in our family. However, we are known for putting it up at the last minute. The latest was Christmas Eve, but that was quite a few years ago, and only happened that one time. My Dad heard it from all of us girls. The average date is around December 21st or 22nd. One of my sisters birthdays is on the 21st, so she likes the tree up by then.
This year, it was put up and decorated today!!

We don't always have a theme, but this year my oldest sister (who just got home yesterday from Halifax!!) and my mom took on the task and choose all the oldies and goodies. There are a bunch from before I was even born! That's really old. Some handmade ornaments, and garland as well. In a few more days, as long as I've been a good girl, it might be a little fuller under there.....I hope!!

sugar plums

Sorry my post is so late today guys!! I'm absolutely exhausted. I've been home for 2 days, and worked both of those days at my old work and wow....You forget how much retail can take out of you, especially during the holidays. Don't get me wrong, I love it there. It's like my second family. Some of my bestest friends are from there and I couldn't love them more!
Now I'm off to bed, with visions of sugar plums dancing in my head.

Bright Nights

My bf and I shared our 2 year anniversary last week and he surprised me with a lovely little evening out. Bright Nights in Stanley Park. This winter wonderland is full of Christmas cheer, including a train ride! Its free admission, although the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund does accept a suggested donation of $2 (minimum). The train ride is less then $10, a nice cheap date! Tons of families and kids enjoying the lights all with a nice warm cup of apple cider. Oh, and make sure you go after dark, so you can take advantage of the lights and sights!

To find out more, check out the Vancouver Parks website....The festivities go till Jan 2nd.

The most wonderful time of the year

I'm a Christmas baby, through and through. It helps that my birthday is on Christmas Day, but I love everything to do with the season. I have a wide collection of classic Christmas movies which I watch every year. I simply can't wait till Starbucks puts out their Christmas cups. i can't resist the urge to make snowmen, and snow angels every time it snows (which you saw in my first post!), and as soon as December 1st hits, my preset radio stations switch around and Christmas carols take over the number 1 spot!
This year, things are a little different, seeing as I'm on the other side of the country. Vancouver did manage to have 1 snow fall so far (it was mayhem! 5 cm, oh my! I'm from Ontario, that's nothing people!), it lasted about a day and a half before it was melted by rain, so I squeezed in a little outdoor fun.
My family and I have a lot of traditions during this time of year. I can't wait to see them, we head home DEC 14th, and we'll be home for about 3 weeks. One of my favourite things is that we all still make Christmas lists....yes, I know Christmas isn't all about gifts and presents, but we like to spoil each other a little bit now and then. Its the thought that counts, and seeing their face and knowing you helped make their day is a great feeling.
Seeing that I've just moved across the country and still currently looking for work, I've had to make this year a little bit of a home-made Christmas. This just means a little more time and effort put into the gifts i give the ones i love. This thought, I like, it warms my heart.

Here's a sneak peek of a few things I'm working on.....

i heart my boyfriend

The other day, as my bf and I were getting ready to go out to run some errands, I was trying to find one of my favourite hats. Of course, it was no where to be found. I asked him if he'd take a quick look in the car, thinking i left it in there....our conversation was as follows...
me: can you take a look in the car for my hat?
him: which hat?
me: my brown, tweed hat with the small brim.
him: what's tweed again?
me: its like a professor's blazer with the elbow patches.
him: ooooh, right.
It's moments like these that remind me how much I love him. He's not only the love of my life, but my best friend.
This one's for you babe!

(at the cottage, a couple of summers ago)

p.s. I'd totally love to have a tweed blazer with elbow patches!!
like this one!

a little history

I thought I'd give you guys a little background on my life....or at least, the last little while. There have been a lot of changes in my life in the last 6 months or so. I quit my job, and toured around Europe with the love of my life. We were in 7 different countries in the course of 3 months. It was a bit difficult to leave my job, I had been there for a few years. I loved what I did and who I worked for and with. But, as such in life, change and opportunity can sweep you off your feet.

(Florence, Italy)

We spent only 3 weeks at home after our big, long trip before leaving good
ol' Ontario and heading out across the country to make it to Vancouver, BC. We took about 6 days to make the drive, considering I had never been on the western half of Canada. Our country is spectacular!! If you haven't had the chance to see all of Canada, do it! do it now!! We made the decision to try life somewhere new, and my bf chose Vancouver. Luckily, we were able to lean on his sister a bit, whom already lived there, for some family support.
We've been here for almost a month, and are getting settled in nicely. Still looking for work, but with the holidays coming up, that can be a bit tough.
So far, so good!

(Whistler, BC)

p.s. don't you worry, more Europe posts are in the near future!
