Mom

Fashion has always been a part of my life.  Growing up a lot of my outfits were made by my Mom, she went to design school as a young lady and was and still is very good.  She's always inspired me.

Now with a blog and everything, the thought of outfits and outfit photos is kind of daunting.  You guys may have noticed that I've been trying to incorporate them more into my my blog and share photos of some of my favourite outfits.  But, when I get dressed and ready for them, the anxiety starts.....do I look on trend? I need to add more accessories! my hair is too puffy/flat! I look fat! I look too tall!  The list could go on for a while... and don't get me started on the awkwardness that starts when I'm in front of the camera.  Posing, trying to help the Bf figure out my camera and generally trying to look slim and hold a smile.
Another thing is, it can be hard to not compare yourself to other bloggers out there.  They're all so beautiful! Have lovely wardrobes! and are just down right amazing! Well, instead of comparing, I've got to think of them all as inspiration.  Some of you may know who you are ;) , some I'm sure may not even know I exist, and in the grand scheme of life, that's ok.  Thank you for beautiful inspiration everyday.

I've come to the realization that I can no longer kid myself with the idea of perfect photos every time, and getting it perfect the first time.  It all comes with practice.  So, outfit posts are here to stay, but as a work in progress.  (please don't judge me too hard!!)

I look at old photos of my Mom, and she looks so effortless and happy.  And I can't lie, she was/is such a cutie!  That's what I hope to get out of outfit photos.  Happy and effortless.  Who cares about the rest!

Any tips?

p.s. this photo is from about 1981, and unfortunately it's not me with my Mom, it's my older sister.  My photo collection is a little limited living in another province from the rest of my family.  But doesn't she look lovely in her printed blouse?!

  1. Hi Holly,
I know where you're coming from. When I first started my blog I wanted it to be about my outfits. I just didn't have people available to take photos of me. And it didn't help that I'm camera shy too! So fast forwarding, my blog is where it is today. I still want to see where it takes me.

The more comfortable you are (be yourself as they say) the more natural you'll be in front of the camera. Judging from your other photos you look great.

Practice, practice, practice even if it's the same poses. I'm sure it'll get easier :)

I can't wait to see some of your outfits!

  3. #1 rule? Be yourself! I always end up doing some goofy pose when I start to feel awkward in front of the camera and it usually ends up being the most natural-looking. (See here: http://f-e-s-t.blogspot.com/2012/02/red-hot-tamale.html)

  4. I know what you mean. I have tried many different ways of displaying clothes and only recently have nearly figured the best way for me - tripod, smile and snap the photo. I too look at wonderful images of beautiful people with great clothes and poses and kinda think why can't I do that, and then I come back to reality! hehe. In the end you have to be you and have fun taking them!

Oh and thanks for stopping by my blog :-) x
